As the sun tried
to peck out between the clouds this morning, temps were already in the high
20s. We received about 1 inch of new snow overnight. The morning headline was
that Route 70, the main east-west highway, was closed by Glenwood Springs due
to a massive rock slide. This was the second rock slide in 2 days. On a smaller
scale, the roadway be take to Copper Mtn, the Dillon Dam Road , has had its share of
small rockslides. With the weather and new snow, we again went to Copper to
ski. Everything was great. We were able to ski power and corduroy on the same
trail. But, as you go higher up, you can see bare spots due to the wind and
warm weather. When we returned home, we heard an update on he I70 rockslide. It
will take another 4 days before they can open a single lane and up to 1 month
before the roadway is completely opened.
The afternoon
temp reached 42 degrees and tomorrow is suppose to be warmer.
